Kevin W. Bauer
Kevin W. Bauer assumed his current assignment as
the Director of Diplomatic Security’s Training Center in September,
2011. He joined the Foreign Service in 1984 as a DS Special Agent
and after completing extensive training, was assigned as an Assistant
Regional Security Officer in Beirut, Lebanon. Following Beirut,
Mr. Bauer established a new Regional Security Office (RSO) in Rio de
Janeiro, Brasil which was followed by a challenging assignment in
Communist Bulgaria. Hard-won experience in Bulgaria led to an
assignment as Chief of Counter Intelligence for North America and
Western Europe which was followed by a tour in Dignitary
Protection. This assignment entailed managing and leading
protective missions for such high profile personalities as Yasser
Arafat, Princess Diana, and the Queens of Thailand, Jordan, Sweden and
Spain. After extensive language training, Mr. Bauer was
assigned as the senior RSO Tunisia, which was followed by similar
assignments in Bahrain, France and Belgium. From 2009 to 2011 he
was the DS Regional Director for Contingency Operations, which included
all State Department security operations in Iraq and
Afghanistan.
Mr. Bauer is a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service and holds the rank of Counselor. He also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1975 to 1980, is married and has two children.
