Mr. Danahey was elected as the national president of FLEOA, then at 23,000 members, in 2003. In addition to his responsibilities, he placed emphasis during his tenure on the complete review of operational procedures and the update of the infrastructure of the Association. He testified before Congressional subcommittees on several occasions on the topics of immigration and border protection.
Mr. Danahey entered federal law enforcement as a special agent with the Naval Investigative Service (NIS) in 1985. Prior to that he was a police officer in Stonington, Connecticut. In the early 1990’s, NIS became the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). During his time with the agency he specialized in general crimes investigation, protective service operations, policy and oversight with the Special Operations Division at NCISHQ, and undercover operations. He served as Chairman of the Director’s Advisory Board and was a FBI taskforce member with the Internet Crimes Against Children Division. He also completed an assignment at the National Counterterrorism Center, was a firearms instructor (H&K and FLETC graduate), and finished his career with the Counterterrorism Division, providing high-risk operations training to personnel deploying to Iraq and other sensitive locations. Mr. Danahey retired from the NCIS in March, 2006.
Mr. Danahey holds an AA degree in law enforcement and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a BA in psychology. He also completed the Air Command and Staff College (USAF), and the Command and General Staff College with the US Army. He served in the US Marine Corps and the Army, in both the National Guard and Army Reserve, retiring as the Deputy Provost Marshal, 9th Theater Support Command, Ft Belvoir, Virginia.
During his career he also served as Chairman, Washington, DC, Council of Governments Narcotics Subcommittee; President, Combined Law Enforcement Intelligence Group; and was a member of the Executive Board of the Washington, DC, Lodge #1 Fraternal Order of Police. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a long-time member of the Association’s Police Investigative Operations Committee.
