FLETA Board grants Reaccreditation to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration Academy

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted academy reaccreditation status to theTreasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) Academy atthe November 17, 2011 meeting in Annapolis Maryland.

 

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) wasestablished under the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 toprovide independent oversight of IRS activities. TIGTA promotes theeconomy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of theinternal revenue laws. It is also committed to the prevention anddetection of fraud, waste, and abuse within the IRS and relatedentities. The TIGTA Academy prepares agents to perform their unique andvital missions.

Assistant Inspector General for Investigations, Michael Delgadothanked everyone for their participation in the process, “lawenforcement is a very dangerous business and at any time, ourprofessional training and our policies can be under great scrutinyrelative to the way we conduct our investigations or should somethinghappen with a use of force incident. Being reaccredited is extremelyimportant not just to us as an organization, but to all of you.”

To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent reviewof their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETAStandards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration,Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with anadditional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclicalprocess occurring every three years. Each year, agencies must submitannual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new andindependent review of the academy/program.
