The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation Board Grants Academy and Program Reaccreditation to the U.S. Secret Service

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board ispleased to announce it granted academy reaccreditation status to theU.S. Secret Service’s (USSS) James J. Rowley Training Center, andprogram reaccreditation to the Essentials of Instruction trainingcourse at the April 25, 2013 meeting in Brunswick, Georgia.

 

The James J. Rowley Training Center (JJRTC) is comprised of almost500 acres of land, six miles of roadway, and 31 buildings. Theprotective, investigative, specialized tactical, andexecutive/managerial training conducted at JJRTC is unique amongfederal law enforcement instructional entities. The core curriculumprovided by JJRTC is designed for special agents, Uniformed Divisionofficers, special officers, and physical security specialists. In asingle year, hundreds of training recruits undergo extensive training in firearms marksmanship, use-of-force/control tactics, emergencymedical techniques, financial crimes detection, physical/site/eventprotection, and water survival training.

 

The Essentials of Instruction course is a six-day program thatintroduces instructors at the James J. Rowley Training Center to theprinciples of adult learning theory, instructional systems design,ethics and professionalism, classroom management, and presentationskills.  This course serves to provide instructional staff with amethod for structuring and delivering active, participant-centeredtraining lessons.  The development and delivery of sample lessonsare demonstrated throughout the course

 

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal lawenforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation,agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/orprogram to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, TrainingDevelopment, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards forAcademies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every threeyears. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparationfor reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of theacademy/program.
