
Inspector Mona Hernandez has over 23 years of federal service, with the last 19 years as a United States Postal Inspector. In August 2025, Inspector Hernandez was appointed as Inspector in Charge (INC) of the Career Development Unit (CDU), overseeing the agency’s national law enforcement training academy.
Inspector Hernandez oversees basic training academies for Postal Inspectors as well as Postal Police Officers, the agency’s uniformed division. She oversees the agency’s Polygraph Unit, National Threat Management Program, and In-Service training for all agency personnel to include Postal Inspectors, Postal Police Officers and Professional, Technical and Administrative (PTA) employees. She currently oversees training operations in Potomac, Maryland; New Castle, Delaware; Summit Point, West Virginia; and Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
Inspector Hernandez also serves on the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Executive Board where she serves on the Strategic Planning Committee as well as the Awareness and Recognition Committee. CDU currently has four FLETA accreditations to include the Academy Accreditation; Instructor Development Program Accreditation; Basic Inspector Training (BIT) Program Accreditation and Postal Police Officer Basic Training (PPOBT) Program Accreditation.
Prior to leading CDU, Inspector Hernandez served as Assistant Inspector in Charge (AIC) of the Communications, Governance & Strategy Group at National Headquarters where she oversaw the Compliance, Audit Response, Enterprise Project Management and Strategic Planning Portfolios for the agency. She also served as the coordinator for the Leadership Employee Development Program.
Prior to joining National Headquarters, Inspector Hernandez served as a first-line supervisor in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she managed a team which primarily worked violent crimes, mail theft and contraband interdiction investigations in the State of Arkansas.
Inspector Hernandez began her law enforcement career in Fort Worth, Texas where she worked violent crimes, mail theft and prohibited mail narcotics investigations. She was a member of the Emergency Response Team and served as the Post Basic Training Coordinator, Agent to Inspector Training Coordinator, Intern Coordinator and Public Information Officer.
While in Texas, she was named IAFCI Regional Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and received special commendations from the North Richland Hills Police Department, the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office as well as the STOP Special Crimes Unit.
Inspector Hernandez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. She is also a graduate of the IACP Women’s Leadership Institute, the USPS Managerial Leadership Program, and the USPS Advanced Leadership Program.
