FLETA Reaccredits the CBP Field Operations Academy and Agriculture Specialist Program

For Immediate Release
CBP Field Operations Academy staff accept the certificate for the academy accreditation.

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Field Operations Academy and Agriculture Specialist Training Program at the November 18-21, 2014 meeting in Glynco, GA.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations Academy provides critical training to support CBP's priority anti-terrorism mission of preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States. The CBP Field Operations Academy continues to provide training that enables CBP to carry out traditional missions, including the interdiction of illegal narcotics and other contraband; refusing entry to people attempting illegal entry or who pose a risk to the U.S.; protecting American agriculture and our environment from harmful pests and diseases; protecting the American economy with the collection of import duties; and, enforcing hundreds of trade, immigration, agriculture and state and local laws at our borders. The CBP Field Operations Academy provides approximately 40 different courses each year nationwide, including basic and advanced training for CBP Officers and Agriculture Specialists; basic training for Air and Marine Agents; basic and advanced training for Import and Entry Specialists and other trade specialists; and advanced training for other occupational specialties throughout the CBP workforce.

The CBP Agriculture Specialist Program (CBPAS) prepares newly hired Agriculture Specialists to protect American agriculture and the food supply by preventing the introduction of harmful pests, plant and animal diseases, and biological threats using their scientific education and expertise. The CBPAS is delivered by CBP and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Quarantine Division Training Center/Professional Development Center in Frederick, MD. CBP Agriculture Specialists perform their mission at more than 300 ports of entry located at airports, seaports, and land borders throughout the United States and along the Canadian and Mexican borders.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
