FLETA Reaccredits DVA

For Immediate Release
Members of DVA received the FLETA Certificate of Reaccreditation

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it has granted reaccreditation status to the Department of Veterans Affairs Air Force Basic Police Officer Course at the November 3-5, 2015 meeting in Glynco, GA.

The goal of the program is to provide high quality law enforcement training to those men and women who protect the service members, staff, visitors, and infrastructure on Air Force military installations. The Department of the Air Force is the DVA Law Enforcement Training Center’s (LETC) largest other government agency (OGA) customer. The program was designed specifically to meet the needs of the Air Force Security Forces and their growing civilian police force. The course provides students with basic law enforcement training covering physical restraint and apprehension training, Air Force-specific forms and law enforcement activities, patrol tactics and procedures, and military and civilian law familiarization.

The program was first created in 2008. The program training is delivered at North Little Rock, Arkansas. As part of this program, the students receive training in the classroom environment, as well as firearms, arrest techniques, defensive tactics, and practical exercises in different environments.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, Training Delivery, and Distance Learning. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
