The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Law Enforcement Instructor Training Program (LEITP) and to the Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) at the May 15, 2025, meeting.
The purpose of the LEITP is to provide training in law enforcement instructional skills focused on delivery of approved curriculum. The LEITP incorporates a variety of instructional methodologies including participative lecture, student-centered activities, demonstrations, roleplays, and laboratories. The LEITP is 10 instructional days and consists of 76 hours of instruction. The average number of students per iteration of the program is 16.
The purpose of the UPTP is to provide, on an interagency basis, a program of instruction that fulfills all the basic federal law enforcement officers’ training requirements necessary for responsible and competent job performance. Rather than being agency-specific, the program addresses common knowledge, skills and abilities expected of all officers. The UPTP is designed to meet these training needs as identified through systematic program monitoring in the form of validation studies and continuous research, which includes feedback from partner organizations. The UPTP is 64 instructional days and consists of 527 total course hours. A maximum number of 48 participants per session can be trained at Glynco and 24 at Artesia.
The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, training organizations submit to an independent review of their program and/or academy to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, training organizations must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the program/academy.
