The Federal Probation and Pretrial Academy falls within the scope of the Administrative Office of The United States Courts (AOUSC), the administrative arm of the federal judiciary. The FPPA’s mission is to provide U.S. probation and pretrial services officers with the training and resources necessary to perform their duties effectively, efficiently, and as safely as possible, while upholding the integrity, values, and dignity of the federal judiciary. The FPPA was established in 2005 on the campus of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers in Charleston, South Carolina. As a FLETC partner organization, FPPA trains between 300 – 400 new officers per year in the Initial Probation and Pretrial Training Program. The FPPA also certifies officers to serve their districts as firearms instructors, safety (defensive tactics) instructors, and search team members. Since 2005, the FPPA has trained over 16,000 officers.
