The United States Secret Service’s Canine Detection Training Program provides the highest level of explosive detection training and produces canine teams that are able to protect the President and our nation’s leaders, visiting heads of state and government, and National Special Security Events, in all environments and under all conditions. Students are members of the Uniformed Division. This course draws on a variety of sources to include classroom instruction and practical application of care, maintenance and safety of canine and kennel facilities. This course provides students with knowledge and hands-on experience in identifying changes of behavior in assigned canines for appropriate odors; as well as, proper execution of systematically and safely clearing vehicles, buildings and luggage utilizing the detection team search procedures.
