The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted initial accreditation status to the Office of Personnel Management Federal Investigative Services National Training Center at the May 6-8, 2014 meeting in Quantico, VA.

The United States Office of Personnel Management, Federal Investigative Services (OPM- FIS) is the Federal Government’s largest provider of background investigations and services, supporting more than 100 federal agencies’ personnel security programs.  FIS processes over 90% of the federal government’s background investigations and conducts over two million investigations annually.  In addition to regional offices world-wide, FIS also has operations in Washington, DC; Ft. Meade, MD; Boyers, PA and Slippery Rock, PA.

The FIS National Training Center (NTC), located in Slippery Rock, PA, first opened its doors in November of 2009.  In February 2010, the NTC submitted applications to FLETA to have two programs considered for accreditation.

In April 2013, the FLETA Board unanimously voted to award accreditation to the Federal Background Investigator Training Program (FBITP) and Essentials of Suitability and Adjudication Program (ESAP).  Subsequently, the NTC applied for Academy Accreditation with the FLETA Office of Accreditation.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
