FLETA Reaccredits FLETC Land Management Police Training

For Immediate Release
FLETC staff accept the certificate of accrediation.

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted reaccreditation status to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers’ (FLETC) Land Management Police Training at the November 18-21, 2014 meeting in Glynco, GA.

The Land Management Police Training (LMPT) is the basic training program for officers primarily charged with enforcing natural resource laws and regulations and violations with nexus to the public lands of the United States and its territories. LMPT is 16 weeks in length and provides, on an interagency basis, a program of instruction that fulfills all the basic land management officers training requirements necessary for responsible and competent job performance.

The tasks of contemporary law enforcement are complex and challenging. Essential to effective performance as a land management officer is a comprehensive and progressive formal training program, which provides assurance that new practitioners are fully equipped to meet the rigorous demands of the environment in which they will operate.

Rather than being agency-specific, the program addresses common knowledge, skills, and abilities that are expected of all land management officers. In today's changing world, land management officers are faced with a variety of situations that, in addition to traditional law enforcement skills, require an awareness of and expertise in human behavior, modern technology, cultural sensitivity, law, and other interdisciplinary approaches to effective law enforcement. LMPT is designed to meet these training needs as identified through systematic program monitoring in the form of validation studies and continuous research, which includes feedback from partner organizations.

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, agencies submit to an independent review of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of: Program Administration, Training Staff, Training Development, and Training Delivery, with an additional 20 standards for Academies. Accreditation is a cyclical process occurring every five years. Each year, agencies must submit annual reports in preparation for reaccreditation, which is a new and independent review of the academy/program.
